Help us make a difference this Christmas

Updated: Dec 10, 2020

We're making Christmas extra special for a group of people aged 50 and over who are living alone in Sheffield this year and we need your help...

We’re organising a Christmas meals and/or gift boxes for over 300 people, aged over 50 years old, who will be alone this Christmas in Sheffield. Each person will receive either a hot, three-course meal to their door on Christmas Day and/or they'll receive a gift box filled with activities and treats in the week before Christmas and a befriending style phone call on the day - that's where we need your help.

Donate a gift

Please help us share the Christmas cheer by providing a small gift for some spending Christmas alone this year

Each person will receive a hot Christmas dinner and a little package of goodies to help spread joy and festive cheer. We're appealing for gift donations of:

· Warm things such as hats, scarfs, gloves or socks

· Small, non-religious, festive decorations

· Luxury bars of soap (the fancy kind that comes wrapped in nice paper!)

· A small photo frame

· A small calendar

All gifts must be new or homemade and please leave it unwrapped as one of our super volunteers will wrap them when we put the boxes together. We'd love for the recipient to know that this is a special gift from someone who cares - so please write 'Gifted by' and your first name on the label.

Please bring your gift(s) to City Road Post Office, S2 5HL before Thursday 10th December 2020.

Make a donation towards a gift

We know in these strange times it is not as easy to donate a gift, as alternative we have set up a specific page for you make donations to be used towards buying gifts;

All donations are gratefully received and our Christmas Meal Experience Coordinator, Charlotte will choose a suitable gift on your behalf.

All donations will be very gratefully received and will make a real difference - thank you

Become a Christmas Day befriending volunteer

Ignite Imagination's Christmas Meal Experience is connecting people aged over 50 to their community this Christmas. As part of this, we are looking for volunteers to give the gift of a phone call this Christmas Day.

Volunteers will be calling people who are alone this Christmas, to say Merry Christmas and have a short chat. You decide how much time you can give to phone just one person, or as many as you like. Ideally we are looking for people with experience in befriending or working with vulnerable or older people.

A short training session will be provided along with some written guidance. To get involved or find out more please email Charlotte on charlotte@igniteimaginations.org.uk
